Six Handy Hacks for Painting Your Home
I’ve just finished painting every room in my house and believe me, it wasn’t fun. But during the exercise, I came up with a couple of ideas that helped make the task a little easier.
1. Lining the paint tray with cling-wrap saves a lot of cleaning up.

Use a few layers for a good seal. I tried a plastic bag but there was too much movement. I also tried foil but it tore too easily. Cling-wrap did the trick.
2. Removing power-point surrounds is easier than taping them.

Use a flat-head screwdriver or knife point to prise them off and then snap them back on when your wall is dry. This may be common knowledge but I hadn’t thought of it before.

3. Prevent paint build-up on your roller frame.

If paint builds up in the roller frame you will find that the roller cover doesn’t fit tightly and will slip during painting. Once again, using a knife, scrape any old dried paint off.
4. Keep a pack of wet-wipes handy.

Great for slips, drips and messy hands. Wipe and bin.
5. Treat brushes and rollers as you would your hair.
Colmo
Yes, you read that right. Combing rollers and brushes as you wash them helps to remove the paint more easily. Then apply a little conditioner to keep them soft in between uses. Rinse the conditioner off and dry the roller or brush before using again.

6. Hang brushes to dry

Brushes will dry more quickly and the bristles will stay straight if you hang them. Loop string or a rubber band though the hole in the end of the brush and slip over a tap.
