Digital tools for Home Planning and Decorating
Drawing and sketching plans for home improvement or renovation project can be a daunting task. Nonetheless, an idea or concept that is presented visually seems to be the best in conveying ideas to to the contractors.
Thankfully, in this digital age, it is possible to plan our ideas virtually with the help of user-friendly software for home planning. There are many programs and software available on the internet. While some professional software may require download fee, there are some
simple and useful free software.

With IKEA 3D planner, you can plan for your kitchen in 3D and obtain an overview of your new design with floor plans, product list and even the cost. You can print out your design upon completion and bring it to the store for discussion with IKEA staff to turn your dream kitchen to a reality. IKEA also has a program for planning living room which is easy to use.
Autodesk Homestyler
Planning in 2D layout
It has simple drag-and-drop feature which allows you to create any room in your home easily including the wall, dimension, furniture, appliances and floor type.
Previewing floor plan in 3D
The program has the capability to switch between 2D and 3D layout. Hence, you can design your room in 2D and visualize it in 3D.
SweetHome3D

Similar to Autodesk, SweetHome3D is also capable of planning in 2D and previewing the results in 3D. The only difference is that it is all in one window. This program is primarily divided into four sections namely the furniture catalog, the home furniture list, home plan in 2D and home 3D view. The advantage of this application is its customizable furniture model by importing your own model and adding it to the plan.
SmallBluePrinter Garden Planner
Garden Planner
It is great for outdoor landscaping and renovation ideas. Although the full version requires a fee, you may still use the online trial version for free except that you can't save your plans for future use. Nonetheless, it is still helpful for the purpose of discussion and visualization with the landscaper.
So the next time you are up for renovation or simply brainstorming ideas for your new home, try these free software.
