Let's get crafty
Who says the kids have to have all of the fun when it comes to arts and crafts in the home. For adults, this is where the inner child can be unleashed and ready to play. There are some quirky craft activities that can be enjoyed in the home, from making a wreath out of corks after painting them, to painting flower wine glasses and creating a jewellery hanger to name. Below are some cost effective ways to create some artistic things that people will come to treasure and love for a while.
1. Make your own cards
Nothing wrong with shop brought Christmas, Easter, Thank You and Birthday cards. Think back to when you were a child, and how fun it was to bring out the crayons, pencils and textas to make your own cards. Anyone who has kids in their family will come to appreciate such hand made joys filled with a child's sense of adventure and creativity. All you need is some cardboard (or even fold an A4 piece of paper in half) and some colourful crayons, pencils and/or textas. Who knows, you might be a better drawer than anticipated.

Places like Lincraft and Spotlight sell some great, cheap craft materials.
Otherwise, you can buy some wrapping paper in bulk, and cut out certain shapes to create what you want to create. Investing in a
Frankie Wrapping Paper Book is gold.
2. Paper Mache and Collages
Find some old magazines that you have not read in a while, and armed with a pair of scissors in tow, cut out images that resonate with you, and of things that make you feel good. Once you have cut enough images, begin to stick them onto a piece of cardboard to create a collage and paper mache effect. Feel free to laminate your design, and stick it somewhere in your home where you can see this piece of art (ideally) every day. Alternatively, you can follow this process to decorate scrapbooks, diaries and notebooks to name. Heaps of fun.

3. Make your own jewellery
Head to any craft supplies store such as
Lincraft and the like, and invest in some sturdy necklace string, and some necklace pieces. You can do the same for your own necklace. If you happen to live in Sydney, inner-city suburbs such as Newtown and Enmore are home to some great (independent) craft stores; especially as you're heading away from the city.

Other great craft activities include scrap booking, as well as artistic endeavours such as drawing and painting. You just need some inspiration to draw, as well as a pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, and a couple of sheets of paper. For the latter activity, it may make sense to head outside if pencil does not flow to paper easily; otherwise the living room is a great room in the home to enjoy such crafty activities for a low cost.
