Is your linen cupboard an overflowing mess? Well, chances are you’re not alone. Despite the fact that plenty of people hope to use their linen cupboard as a way to avoid clutter, it often ends up becoming a bit of an eyesore itself! Here are a few simple tips to conquer clutter in your linen cupboard once and for all.
Out with the old
The first step to organise your linen cupboard is to take a much-needed inventory. People have a natural inclination to hang on to old towels (just in case!), but if they’ve seen better days and you don’t need them anymore, then simply bin them. Getting rid of fraying, faded towels and sheets will immediately free up a significant amount of cupboard space.
Divide and conquer
Restoring order in your linen cupboard can’t be done without categorising all linen items. Rummaging through piles of sheets and blankets will be a thing of the past after you’ve divided all linens into sections: bedding, towels, napery, blankets etc. and allocating each section its own shelf. If you are tight on space, store bulky blankets in the bedroom cupboard or better yet vacuum seal them so they lose an inch or two.
Smart storage systems
Even though your linen cupboard is a storage space in itself, there’s no harm adding extra storage items to make things even more efficient. Wicker baskets and plastic containers are great for storing small, fiddly items, fit neatly inside cupboards and can look quite decorative. Make sure you keep things orderly by labelling each basket or container, such as ‘toilet rolls’ or ‘extra pillowcases’.
