Just like handbags and shoes, you cannot have too many cushions for the home, either on your living room sofa, and/or on the bed in the bedroom. A cushion has a few more dynamics to it than meets the eye, and they're not all created equally. This article goes on to explain the thought process in choosing the right cushions for your home decor, and tips on how to style your cushions will also be covered.
1. Your home situation
How many cushions are in the home already? In which area/s of the home would you like more cushions? Are there kids in the home? These are a few factors that need to be taken into consideration. Know your theme. Would you like plain cushions, or cushions with colour/s? Perhaps cushions with some floral and other stitched on designs?
Many different factors come into play, when choosing the right cushions for your home decor.
2. Function vs Style
If there are kids in the home, you'll be wasting your time investing in cushions that have lovely patterns and beads sewed on. These cushions are best left for the adults bedroom area. With kids in the home, you must be functional. You will need some larger, heavier cushions in such circumstances.

3. Colour and Design considerations
If you have a white sofa: darker cushions, combined with a few decorative ones will blend in beautifully. Conversely, lighter tones suit on dark sofas. Floral cushions do not necessarily blend in with a floral sofa, unless the patterns and designs are mirror images of each other. Best to also tie your cushions into other decorative items in the home from lamps to artworks. Mix it up, and if you want to mix prints, stick to similar colour palettes. For instance, dark black, combined with pale pink would not be natural.
Getting the placement right
Place your larger cushions at the back of your bed and/or sofa, and layer on down until the smallest cushions are positioned at the front. You will know when you're about to have too many cushions for the home. You don't want your daily bed making routine to be an arduous task, and you will need to keep your sofa functional so to sit on this with ease and comfort.
